Katlyn + Patrick's Wedding @ The Anthracite Center, Carbondale, PA

Katlyn and Patrick’s wedding in Northeastern Pennsylvania at the Sacred Heart Church Parish (Peckville, PA) and The Anthracite Center (Carbondale, PA) was a classic and yet whimsical affair, infused with so many unique elements and details that represented the couple’s personality.

I was so honored to be their wedding photographer for their special day - they are truly one of the sweetest couples I’ve ever worked with!

We were very excited to officially make the commitment to each other forever.

Meet The Bride & Groom

Katlyn (Kat) and Patrick (PJ) met at the high school that they both work at as teachers; Kat teaches Spanish and PJ teaches math - only two classrooms apart! They are a fun-loving, adventurous couple who is always on the go! In their free time, they enjoy shopping for vinyl records and finding delicious foods to try. When they stay in, they enjoy relaxing on the couch together with a cup of tea and their feline family members, Maisy and Moe.

PJ proposed to Kat on a bridge near Carroll Creek in Frederick, MD - this was so special to his bride-to-be, as this is the town that she was born in and where most of her family resides. Kat says that it was the “most romantic proposal possible!” (Fabulous job, PJ!) After she said “yes,” (of course) they celebrated with family. Their families are so important to both of them - Kat’s brothers and sisters were all in the bridal party, and PJ’s dad was his best man.

The Ceremony

The ceremony was held at the Sacred Heart Church Parish in Peckville, PA. This location was very near and dear to their hearts as PJ has been a member of the parish for his whole life - Kat joined him in the Catholic faith and membership at the parish earlier in 2021. They expressed the importance of their faith in their more traditional Catholic marriage ceremony.

The Reception

The reception was held at a newer venue in the area, The Anthracite Center in Carbondale, PA. The building was originally a bank and is almost 100 years old. It has so many beautiful architectural details and quirky treasures (like the vault door you see near the cake and sweetheart’s table!). The reception is where the couple really let their fun personalities shine - from their “cool” entrance, to the personalized favors, and then one of my favorites - their vinyl-record-signing station in lieu of a traditional guestbook.

Reflections on the Wedding Planning Experience

Kat & PJ remarked that they went into wedding planning in 2020 with the expectation that their wedding might look different than they had envisioned due to COVID-19 - they were thankful that most of the restrictions were lifted just shortly before the date of their wedding. They enjoyed planning their wedding, but due to being teachers during the pandemic, they did leave a lot of last-minute planning to be done right before the wedding.

“We did leave a lot of planning for last minute, but teaching during a pandemic definitely took up most of our time this past year. Our advice to future couples is to not worry so much about the smaller details - everything is going to work out as it should!”
